Emerging artist Antonio Spagnuolo was born in Avellino. After completing the studies at liceo Artistico “P.A. De Luca” – Sez. Ceramica – he starts frequenting a ceramic studio as a decorator and, thanks to this environment, he begins his paintings on canvas through raffiguration of the same things he used to paint on terracotta stuff. Conceptually, he begins his career by imitating some masterpiece by the master of the past, this until he comes to a point in which he paints by using the language of surreal and metaphysical art. To a technical level, his approach to art is defined at first by watercolours, then by oil colours. The objects he often represents are pencils, safety pins and little balls, which all come from his childhood. Antonio’s artworks are in substance the resultants of what he lived when he was a child, and are made due to his worries about forgetting his parents and the people he once loved. The solid support of the canvas makes his memories become real and tangible in order to be protected by the constant threat of oblivion.
